Mock Draft -Post Free Agency w/ Trades

Posted on

tb             1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers-  Jameis Winston, QB, FSU

This is almost certain as death and taxes. Tampa Bay lands their franchise quarterback. Winston certainly has all the tools you want on the field and if he matures off the field Tampa Bay will be set for a long time at the quarterback position.

tennessee_titans            2. Tennessee Titans- Leonard Williams, DL, USC

For whatever reason the Titans keep claiming Mettenberger is their quarterback going forward. If they aren’t blowing smoke then Williams should be the pick as he’s arguably the best player in the draft and will help bolster the Titans defensive line.

jags           3Jacksonville Jaguars- Vic Beasley, OLB,  Clemson

Beasley has been the best defensive player in the country the last two years and then completely destroyed the combine securing his spot as a top 5 pick. The Jaguars land a much needed difference maker on the defensive side of the ball.

oakland_raiders           4. Oakland Raiders- Kevin White, WR,  West Virginia

Kevin White came relatively out of no where this season and showed what a dynamic receiver he is. He ran a blazing 4.35 40 yard dash at the combine and proved he’s ones of the best wide receiver prospects this year. The Raiders need an outside weapon for Carr.

saints            5. New Orleans Saints- Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon

(New Orleans trades pick 12, their 2nd round and their 5th rd pick to Washington for pick 5)

In the first trade of the draft I have the New Orleans Saints moving up to grab their future franchise signal caller. Many think Mariota could use a year of seasoning/learning and who better to learn from than Payton and Brees. The Saints are thinking long-term with this move.

new_york_jets           6. New York Jets- Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama

The Jets get leaped over on their chance to take Mariota but still land Cooper who will immediately help whoever they have taking snaps. Geno Smith will have plenty of weapons with Amari Cooper, Eric Decker, and newly acquired Brandon Marshall.

bears           7. Chicago Bears- Dante Fowler, OLB,  Florida

With Vic Fangio coming in from San Francisco the Bears look to be transitioning to a 3-4 defense. The Bears need to find an outside pass rusher and Folwer fits the bill as a versatile big time playmaker for the Bears to build around.

atlanta_falcons            8. Atlanta Falcons- Randy Gregory, OLB, Nebraska

The Falcons pretty much have to take a pass rusher in the first round and lucky for them one of the most athletic pass rushers falls to them. Gregory is a lump of clay they can mold into a serious difference maker.

san_francisco_49ers            9. San Francisco 49ers- Marcus Peters, CB, Washington

(San Francisco trades pick 15, their 3rd round pick and next years 4th round pick for pick 9)

The 49ers lost both of their cornerbacks in free agency and need to find someone to play opposite Brock. They trade up to land the best corner who has come out since Patrick Peterson. If Peters checks his attitude,  he can be a shutdown corner in the NFL.

st_louis_rams            10. St. Louis Rams- La’el Collins, OT, LSU

After trading for Nick Foles the Rams need to provide protection for him. Collins is the best offensive lineman in this draft with the versatility to play anywhere on the line. He’ll help a team who should concentrate on running the football.

miami_dolphins           11. Miami- Devante Parker, WR,  Louisville

(Miami trades pick 14, their 4th rd pick and their two 5th round picks for this pick 11)

After trading away Mike Wallace the Dolphins need to add another playmaker on the outside. Parker has shown the last two years in college that he can go and high point the ball and make big plays, a much needed complement to the inside guys currently on the Dolphins roster.

cleveland_browns           12. Cleveland Browns- Danny Shelton, NT, Washington

With the top three wide receivers gone the Browns address their Nose Tackle position. While I don’t love Shelton this high the buzz is that the league thinks he’s a top half of the 1st round type player. He will help the Browns run defense.

washington_redskins            13.Washington Redskins – Brandon Scherff, OT, Iowa

(From New Orleans)

The Redskins need to bring in more talent to their offensive line to protect Robert Griffin III. Scherff can play anywhere on the line and will immediately help the run game. Adding draft picks by trading down and still landing Scherff is a smart play by Washington.

vikings            14. Minnesota Vikings- Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan St

(From Miami)

After moving back the Vikings are still able to secure who many to believe the best cornerback in this class. The speedy Waynes would compliment Rhodes really nicely and help sure up the Vikings secondary.

new_york_giants            15. New York Giants- Eric Kendricks, LB, UCLA

(From San Francisco)

The Giants could use help in their defensive front 7 and adding the best off the ball linebacker in this draft after trading down makes a lot of sense. Kendricks was a tackling machine at UCLA and has shown a great ability to cover running backs out of the backfield.

houston_texans            16. Houston Texans- Ronald Darby, CB, FSU

Here the Texans grab one of the hottest names in the draft in Ronald Darby. Darby is a superb athlete capable of keeping up with anyone. He wasn’t targeted much at FSU but that speaks to his coverage ability, the Texans can use help in the back end.

san_diego_chargers            17. San Diego Chargers- Malcom Brown, DT, Texas

The Chargers would love to add a piece like Brown to their defensive line. Brown has the ability to play both Nose and End in the Chargers 3-4 defense. With this addition the Chargers can would have one of the better younger defensive lines in the AFC.

kansas_city_chiefs           18. Kansas City Chiefs- Cameron Erving, C, FSU

Out goes Rodney Hudson via free agency in comes Cameron Erving. After Erving’s move from Left Tackle to Center he immediately became the best Center prospect in this years draft. Reid will love his athleticism in the run game and Smith will love the time he gives him in the pocket.

cleveland_browns               19. Cleveland Browns- Maxx Williams, TE, Minnesota

The Browns grabbed their running stuffing defensive tackle with the earlier pick and with no value presenting itself at wide receiver the Browns look to help their passing attack by drafting the best tight end. Williams may not be a stud athlete but he does everything well including blocking.

cowboys             20. Dallas Cowboys- Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia

(Dallas trades pick 27, their 3rd round pick, and their 5th round pick)

Dallas leapfrogs a couple of teams to grab the best running back in this class. Its a risk taking a running back coming off a knee injury, but I think Jerry Jones believes Gurley can be the next great running back. Gurley has everything you want in a running back, including breakaway speed.

cincinnati_bengals            21. Cincinnati Bengals- Shaq Thompson, LB, Washington

Shaq Thompson is a unique prospect and will take a certain team to know how to play him for him to reach his potential. He a very athletic small linebacker who can cover extremely well and is a hunt and seek type football player. The Bengals draft him to make plays.

pittsburgh_steelers            22. Pittsburgh Steelers- P.J. Williams, CB, Florida St.

The Steelers need to address the cornerback position early in this draft, as they severely lack starters and depth. P.J. Williams is a very aggressive player who likes to hit people in the open field while also possessing good hips and quick feet to mirror wide receivers.

detroit_lions            23. Detroit Lions- Jake Fisher, OT, Oregon

Jake Fisher showed at the combine that he is one of the most athletic offensive tackles in the draft class. He has versatility to play any position on the  line and the Lions could use help at a few spots. The pick of Fisher will help the run game and Stafford’s time in the pocket.

arizona_cardinals             24. Arizona Cardinals- Bud Dupree, OLB, Kentucky

The Cardinals have one of the better defenses but could add some pass rushers. Dupree has a lot of athleticism and experience standing up as a rusher as well as with his hand in the dirt. Dupree could wind up being the steal of the draft being selected this late.

carolina_panthers            25. Carolina Panthers- DJ Humphries, OT, Florida

The Panthers picked up Michael Oher in free agency but are kidding themselves if they think he’s the answer at left tackle. Humphries is an athletic tackle who shows good feet in pass protection. Newton could really use more time in the pocket and Humphries will help.

baltimore_ravens             26. Baltimore Ravens- Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Oklahoma

It’s tough to predict where Dorial Green-Beckham goes in this draft. Other teams may not even have him on their board but I think Ozzie Newsome thinks he can get the best out of him. Green-Beckham is incredibly talented and would definitely help the depleted Ravens wide receiver corp.

philadelphia_eagles             27.  Philadelphia Eagles- Nelson Agholor, WR, USC

(From Dallas)

Chip Kelly is marching to the beat of his own drummer this off season. The Eagles wide receivers won’t strike fear into the hearts of many defenses and Kelly may not think they need to with his offense but Agholor would surely help Bradford on underneath and deep routes.

denver_broncos            28.  Denver Broncos- TJ Clemmings, OT, Pittsburgh

The Broncos lost Orlando Franklin in free agency and need help along the offensive line to help keep Manning on his feet. Clemmings is a raw offensive tackle but is oozing with potential. He is a nasty run blocker and with technique work could become a very good pass protector.

indianapolis_colts             29. Indianapolis Colts- Landon Collins, S, Alabama

Despite Collins being the best safety in this class he slides all the way to 29 where the Colts will be thrilled to land a play maker at safety. Collins may not be a true center fielder but he is a good tackler as the last line of defense.

packers logo            30. Green Bay Packers- Kevin Johnson, CB, Wake Forest

With the Packers losing both Davon House and Tramon Williams in free agency, cornerback becomes a pressing need.  Kevin Johnson is a silky smooth cover guy who does a great job mirroring defenders and is adept at zone and man to man.

saints            31. New Orleans Saints- Shane Ray, OLB, Missouri

The Saints made a move up to grab their future quarterback and here the grab an outside pass rusher. Ray has a lightening first step and can bend the edge, however he struggles to get off of blocks. The Saints need to help their pass rush which would, in turn, help out their secondary.

new_york_jets            32. New York Jets- Owamagbe Odighizuwa, OLB, UCLA

(New York Jets trade pick 37 and are swapping 4th round picks)

The Jets move up and grab a pass rusher to help their defense. Odighizuwa does a really nice job around the edge and is stout enough vs the run. The Jets need to add some youth to their linebacking corp.

tennessee_titans             1. Tennessee Titans-  Ereck Flowers, OT, Miami

tb            2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers– AJ Cann, OG, South Carolina

oakland_raiders           3Oakland Raiders- Preston Smith, DE, Mississippi St.

jags           4. Jacksonville Jaguars- Jalen Collins, CB, LSU

new_england_patriots            5New England Patriots- Arik Armstead, DE, Oregon

washington_redskins           6. Washington Redskins- Eli Harold, OLB, Virginia

bears           7. Chicago Bears- Eddie Goldman, NT, FSU

new_york_giants            8. New York Giants- Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford

st_louis_rams            9. St. Louis Rams- Byron Jones, CB, Connecticut

atlanta_falcons            10Atlanta Falcons- Laken Tomlinson, OG, Duke

cleveland_browns           11Cleveland Browns- Jaelan Strong, WR, Arizona St.

washington_redskins           12Washington Redskins- Eric Rowe, CB, Utah

(From New Orleans)

vikings            13. Minnesota Vikings- Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin

houston_texans             19. Houston Texans- Devin Funchess, WR, Michigan

philadelphia_eagles             20. Philadelphia Eagles- Ali Marpet, OG Hobart

cincinnati_bengals            21. Cincinnati Bengals- Jordan Phillips, NT, Oklahoma
